Occupational Therapy Services

As Fortitudo's clinical arm, we provide Occupational Therapy Services to both children and adult with the aim of improving mental resilience for daily functions.

Occupational Therapy is an allied health profession that use activities in both skills development and recovery to enable persons to master the goals important to them in their lives.

Read more about the profession here.

We are registered under the Allied Health Professions Council and bounded by Code Of Ethics.

At Fortitudo, we bring our Occupational Therapy Services to YOU, out of the traditional "clinical" setting to promote community integration and social interaction at age appropriate leisure venues. We choose our venue partners with care and we will only recommend venues that match your needs.

Mobile Occupational Therapy Services

At Fortitudo, we have a team of in-house registered Occupational Therapists who provide a range of clinical Occupational Therapy Services to supplement Medical, Psychiatric and/or Multi-Disciplinary Team treatments.

Our mobile Occupational Therapy Assessments and Interventions are done at the following locations:

  • clinics
  • community spaces
  • client's school or work place
  • collaboration partners’ premises
  • inside our clients’ own homes
  • client's location of choice (subjected to suitability and availability)

Occupational Therapy Services are goal-focused rather than condition-focused. Our inventions work towards developing life skills which have been affected by our clients’ clinical conditions rather than treating the conditions itself.

For example, we do not provide treatment for Autism, however we do provide interventions for Sensory Sensitivity (a trait that accompanies Autism) and impaired or poorly developed social skills (an effect of Autism).

We work with closely a network of Doctors, Psychiatrists, Allied Health Professionals (such as Psychologists), Social Services and Collaborators. If required, we may recommend referral to these services for co-treatment.

Please refer HERE for the list of clinical conditions we support.

Occupational Therapy Interventions

Occupational Therapy Interventions are available in 60-minutes sessions (including documentation) to provide ample time for clients to warm-up, cool down as well as complete reflection and therapist documentation. Documentation is a legal requirement as outlined in our code of ethics.

After the assessments of a client has been completed, our Occupational Therapists will make recommendations on the number and frequency of intervention sessions for the client, depending on the assessed severity of dysfunction and client learning speed.

As Occupational Therapists, we take on a holistic view on the individual and recognize that the different performance areas are interrelated. Thus, more than one intervention can take place within the same session. For example, a typical session may start with Sensory Modulation, followed by fine motor exercises, handwriting skills training and ending in more Sensory Modulation.

Long Term Goals, Short Term Goals and Individual Session Goals will be set in the assessment phase. Intervention outcome and expectations will be discussed and explained, these are also outlined in our Treatment Agreement.

We recommend clients to book the dates of each intervention session in advance and to attend the sessions as scheduled. Achieving the recommended frequency of sessions enables our clients to have effective learning and change. If the breaks between intervention sessions are too long, our clients would require more time for re-learning, which slows down the speed of improvement and change.

For certain intervention sessions (especially for younger children or higher-needs clients), the participation of parents or caregivers as co-therapists will be required. This participation will provide support to the clients and help parents and caregivers gain ideas on helping the clients at home.

Therapy Groups

At Fortitudo, our clinical arm specialize in resilience training through a range of Therapy Groups aim to build awareness and head knowledge in the different topics.

Research had long shown that skills development, growth and recovery takes place most effectively in a safe supportive environment. Our professionally facilitated groups, carefully chosen activities and peer support provide this optimum condition.

All Therapy Groups are run by our Occupational Therapists who have vast knowledge and clinical experience in Group Dynamics and Group Processes as well as the individual topics.

For certain groups, we may invite Visiting Consultants or Topic Experts to part-facilitate/ co-facilitate some specialized topics.

Therapy Groups will run in series throughout the year. Your therapists will let you know when the groups are starting.
